Geology

Chert lenses within the radiolarites of the Knip group

The foundation of the natural history of the Island are its rocks. Curaçao has a very interesting geological history, going back in time for about 110 million years. What´s more, the rocks that tell this story are readily observable in lots of places around the Island. The museum team therefore decided upon this theme as the backbone of the Museum. In this exhibit the visitor will get an impression of the geological past of Curaçao as well as answers to the more general geological questions: what are rocks, minerals and fossils?
